Fresno County Office of Education room 274
Year 4 (2010-11)
Working with our newest partner, San Francisco Museum and Historical Society, we will travel to San Francisco to learn from the experts from National Park Service, SFMHS, and others! We plan to follow guide, John Martini, as he takes us through the historic districts such as Sutro Heights. NPS ranger Rik Penn will guide us through the Presidio. On Sunday, we meet our guide, Monika, and learn about Telgraph Hill and get an inside view of the historic murals at Coit Tower. Returning to lower ground via Filbert steps, the group goes to the Ferry Building for a late lunch.
We traveled to Simi Valley and visited the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum. Docents guided us through the vast expanse; we ate lunch under the wing of AirForce One, and toured the fabulous "Discovery Center," where students are taken through first-hand a hypothetical challenge once faced by our president.
The next day, we visited Richard Nixon's Presidential Library and Museum. There we were led through the library, museum, and grounds (with his birthplace home) by docents.
Many participants expressed the desire to return "on their own time." Fabulous trip!
Join us as we discuss James Loewen's book "Teaching What Really Happened" and reflect on his book "Lies My Teacher Told Me." It will be a great day!
